On Friday, February 1, the girls’ swim team won first place in the Dual County League Championship meet.
According to the MetroWest Daily News, senior Megan Pierce earned second place in the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 5:19.62. Pierce also earned second place in the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 59.62 seconds. Sophomore Molly Pierce came in second place for the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard freestyle while senior Kristina Barakov came in third place in the 100-yard backstroke event. The Wayland girls won the meet with a total of 610 points, defeating Westford Academy, the second place team, by over 100 points.
“It felt great. We knew it was going to be tough because Westford is a strong team, but we really came through,” sophomore Mindy Lou said.
Friday’s meet was the sixth consecutive DCL win for Wayland’s girls’ swim team.
Sectionals will be held this Saturday at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, followed by State Championships on February 16 at Springfield College.
