Monday night, the WHS boys’ basketball team faced off against Arlington Catholic High School. Down by one point at halftime, the Warriors came back, winning with a final score of 72-49.
With the victory, the Warriors advanced to the Division III North semifinals, which will be held on Wednesday, March 6 at 7 p.m. at Burlington High School.
Wayland will play against the top-seeded team, North Reading High School, which currently has a record of 21-0. North Reading is hot off a 57-40 win against ninth-seeded Watertown High School.
Dual County League MVP Jaleel Bell looks to lead the Warriors to the Division III North finals against the winner of the Danvers vs. Whittier game. Bell scored 30 points during Monday’s game and brought down 11 rebounds.
Senior captain Mark Bonner also had a solid game, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
“We all have the common goal of [being] state champions, but it won’t come easy. North Reading’s a great team, and their record shows it,” senior team member Christian Eng said. “We have had an excellent day of preparation, and we are ready to take on North Reading tomorrow.”
On the North Reading side, Cape League MVP John Mastacusa looks to lead his team after scoring 22 points and getting 10 rebounds in the team’s last game against Watertown.
A fan bus will leave Wayland High School at 5 p.m. if 50 people sign up in the main office by noon on Wednesday.
