On Thursday, March 23rd a WHS teacher found a faint image of a Nazi Swastika drawn in the South Building elevator. The Swastika was drawn on the coating of the cleaning agent that was covering the stainless steel surface of the elevator and was approximately 3 inches tall and 3 inches wide.

WHS principal Allyson Mizoguchi sent an email to the WHS community at 12:55 p.m. on Friday informing students and teachers about the discovery.

“I am bringing this to your attention in order to reassert our values of safety and inclusion at WHS, and to unequivocally state that images or actions of hate are not tolerated anywhere or anytime,” Mizoguchi wrote.

Mizoguchi noted that because the elevator is rarely used, it is unclear how many students and teachers saw the Swastika.

“We are investigating this matter fully and are reviewing our practices related to elevator usage in the South Building,” Mizoguchi wrote.

Mizoguchi encouraged anyone with questions regarding the incident to contact her.
