This photograph, circa 1884-1930, shows the Old Town Hall, located at 12 Cochituate Road. It was built in 1878 to serve as the new town hall and was demolished in 1957 and is also the current site of the Grout Heard House. George K. Lewis described the building in his book 'Growing Up in Wayland': "Occasionally, movies were shown on Saturdays at the old Wayland Town Hall, a huge Victorian structure of wood, that stood where the Grout-Heard House does today. The Town Hall had a very large meeting room on the second floor, provided especially for town meetings, but also used for Wayland Garden Club flower shows and a local badminton group."
