January 29, 2021
The Wayland High School Administration and Student Council have announced that as part of Winter Week, they will hold two viewings of the Netflix documentary, “The Social Dilemma.” These viewings will take place on Wednesday, February 3.
Students will view the documentary remotely via Zoom using the webinar function. They have set up the viewing this way so students can watch the film together. Students will be emailed the link to join next Tuesday. Below are the times for the viewings:
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Viewing for all 9th and 10th graders
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Viewing for all 11th and 12th graders
Students are asked to budget their time next Wednesday to ensure that they will join their grade’s viewing, as it is required. Advisory will not be held to ensure all students have time to watch the film.
The documentary runs about 90 minutes long. Following each screening, Student Council will facilitate a live 20-minute Q&A with Vickie Curtis (WHS ’03), who worked as a writer on the documentary.
This film was selected because it has garnered acclaim from critics’ circles across the country, and is a wake-up call to anyone who uses social media.
