November 21, 2022
The Wayland High School student council will hold its annual Spirit Week from Monday, Nov. 21 until Wednesday, Nov. 23. During this time, there will be three psyches that students can choose to participate in, as well as out-of-school Spirit Week activities. To conclude Spirit Week, there will be a special schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 23 filled with numerous activities and a pep rally at the end of the day.
Each day of the week leading up to Thanksgiving break is assigned a psych. Student council President Delia Caulfield sent out an email that included the psyches.
On Monday, Nov. 21, the psych is twin day, where students can choose to match outfits with their friends. On Tuesday, Nov. 22, the psych is pajama day, allowing students a day to dress up in their comfiest clothes. Wednesday, Nov. 23, is Spirit Day, and each grade is assigned a color to wear to show their school spirit. Freshmen will dress in green, sophomores will dress in blue, juniors will dress in red and seniors will dress in orange and black.
Additionally, there will be out-of-school activities for all WHS students occurring throughout the week. On Monday, Color Blast will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the academic building. During Color Blast, students will decorate their grade’s assigned wing of the school in their grade’s color. The freshmen will decorate the math wing with green decorations, the sophomores will decorate the language wing with blue decorations, the juniors will decorate the history wing with red decorations and the seniors will decorate the English wing with orange and black decorations.
On Tuesday, the Student Council is holding a spikeball tournament at 7:30 p.m. in the Field House. The cost to participate in the tournament is $5 per each team of two.
Finally, after much debate, WHS Principal Allyson Mizoguchi sent a letter to families announcing that the annual Powderpuff game will take place on Wednesday. The WHS senior girls will play against Weston High School’s senior girls in the annual Powderpuff football game on the WHS turf field at 2 p.m..
“With the student and family-organized powderpuff game just days away, this letter is to inform [families] that the game will occur at the Wayland High School turf at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23,” Mizoguchi wrote in her letter. “Wayland and Weston officials and medical staff will be on site to enable this event to occur, and to occur as safely as possible.”
Throughout Spirit Week, students have an opportunity to earn points for their grade by participating in activities, and at the end of the week, the points will be tallied up and one grade will be crowned the winner. On Spirit Day, normal classes will not meet, and grades will travel with their advisories to compete in activities such as Pictionary, “Guess that Song,” “Are you Smarter than a Freshman” and Coke and Pepsi. The day will conclude with an all-school pep rally held in the field house. There, students will compete in activities such as musical chairs, a relay race and tug-of-war with their grade.
