With the 2025-2026 school year in full swing, here are seven changes to be on the lookout for.

Play It Forward: Benefit concert held for the Class of 2026
A project that has taken many days, weeks and months to achieve is finally open and ready for use. The new Council On Aging Community Center opened their newly constructed doors to the public on June 5. Many activities took place at the opening ceremony including speeches, a ribbon cutting ceremony, games and presentations. In addition, food and beverages were given out for the attendees to enjoy. “We are very excited for this community center to be opening because it has been a long project and has been eagerly awaited for by many Wayland residents,” Wayland resident Deacon Hoagland said.

Following the ceremony, the class of 2024 threw their graduation caps into the air to celebrate.
News Brief: Class of 2025 graduation *rescheduled*
Last Wednesday, the Wayland School Committee gathered to discuss a number of topics regarding the health curriculum and Innovation Career Pathway course. Another large topic of conversation was the ways to potentially mitigate distracting cell phone usage. "These [phones] are going to distract your learning and social relationships," Superintendent David Fleishman said. "That's concrete right there."

Wandering Backpack asks what you would bring if you had 10 minutes to pack a bag with your most treasured items, knowing you wouldn’t be back for years.

Passport: Because I love to travel, and I’m always ready to go somewhere new.

Coffee: I’m an avid coffee drinker, and you never know when you’re going to need a cup of it.

Hair clip: I don’t like having my hair in my face, so I always try to have a hair clip or a hair tie.

Apple: I love fruit, and I usually carry a snack with me.

Pumpkin Granola: Anything pumpkin is amazing.

Cell phone: To stay connected so I can talk to my friends and family and play games.

The Wayland Scholarship Foundation was created to help students reach their future goals when choosing which college to attend. “I have a lot of ambitious goals for the program,” Committee Chair Jeanne Brown said. “But primarily, the goal is to ensure that students who have academic promise and financial need get a little help getting to their first year of college.”
