On Wednesday, June 7 the Wayland Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is hosting Career Day for Wayland High School juniors. Previously, the event was run by the WHS Counseling Department until the PTO took it over. Both Wayland community members and outside professionals will be coming to WHS to talk about their careers.

“This year, we have 45 careers represented,” PTO President Sejal Srinivasan said.

During the school day, juniors will be put into small groups based on their careers of interest. The groups are based on a form sent out in early May to all juniors.

“We aim for the groups to be between five to 10 people,” Srinivasan said.

Students will meet in empty classrooms and other available spaces throughout the school, such as conference rooms and the commons, with the professional. The professionals with share information an answer questions based on their careers. Some of the careers include authors, coaches and nutritionists.

“[Professionals will set up] anywhere Dr. Mizoguchi can find available space,” Srinivasan said.

As juniors start thinking more about college, Career Day can be a great opportunity to explore their interests and prepare for their future.

“Career Day allows volunteers to have a direct and meaningful impact on our children’s future life choices,” Srinivasan said.
