Join WSPN’s Mischa Lee and Elyssa Grillo as they discuss this year’s top winter fashion trends.

As the cold weather arrives and the final leaves begin to drop, so do winter fashion trends. The incoming snow and holiday festivities call for brand new winter trends, working their way into the fashion spotlight. We’re here to tell you about some of the top fashion trends this winter.

Fur-trimmed leather jackets
Puffer coats have been a huge trend in previous winters, but what about fur trimmed leather jackets? The timeless leather material lined with fur creates a must-have winter coat. It encapsulates style with warmth, which is perfect for this winter season. Also, cold weather calls for darker-toned clothing, and these brown, faux leather fur-trimmed coats have the perfect dark chocolate color. The next time you’re searching for a new coat for this winter season, try to find one of these jackets to spice up your closet.

Ribbons and bows
An easy way to top off any simple outfit with a girly flare is ribbons or bows for your hair. However, in this season’s recent fashion, the traditional accessory has found its way onto anything from t-shirts to tights. With the holiday season in full swing, bows always play a big part in the wrapping of a gift or the decorations of a Christmas tree, yet 2023 has brought a new obsession with ribbons among high fashion designers and Pinterest users. With a rise in “ballet-core” fashion and the ongoing “preppy” style, it is no surprise to us that bows cycled into this year’s trends to combine the two. Ribbons are very versatile, because you can wear them on your wrist or in your hair. Since several brands are on top of this trend, you can find bows on jewelry, on dresses and on many more every-day items.

Leg warmers
Like bows, leg warmers partly came from the “ballet-core” trend that grew on Pinterest and TikTok last winter. They are a warm-up staple for ballerinas to stay comfortable, while also keeping their lines and turn-out visible at the same time. However, in the fashion world, they are more of a style preference than a practical accessory. The leg warmer over the shoe look originally started with the Japanese Harajuko style from the 90s, and has recently made a comeback in Tokyo and around the world with teen girls. Although it is a very maximalist style compared to the subtle “clean girl” trends that are popular in America right now, we think that adpopting their leg warmer trick over Mini Uggs with leggings perfectly adds a cozy effect to any outfit.

Skims
Kim Kardashian’s shapewear and clothing brand has been skyrocketing in popularity ever since its first collection launch in 2019. Now, in 2023, Skims is still booming with sales and we’re here to tell you that it’s going to continue to do so this winter. Skims has some of the best basics. With items from long sleeves to pants to hoodies, Skims seems to have it all. Since winter is arriving, Skims is a great place to look for pieces to layer or warm basics that will last you the whole winter season.

Tall leather boots
For the past five years or so, the best going-out boots seemed to be booties or high-top Dr. Martens. However, as we enter into late fall, the most popular looks have featured knee-high boots. In either black or a saddle brown, these boots can be paired with a skirt or a dress, but not in the way they were worn back in 2016. Although the Ariana Grande inspired sweater dress with suede over-the-knee boots took 2016 fall and winter by storm, this comeback is closer to the Serena Vanderwoodsen style of 2007. Paired with long white socks, these boots are extremely warm and comfortable for walking around during the winter months.
