Wayland Weekly continues with three student hosts

“Here goes another night on the Wayland Local Channel!” senior Bassma Sayeh laughed, as she prepared to host the third episode of Wayland Weekly.

Senior Bassma Sayeh, junior Kathryn Washek, and sophomore Jake Greene are hosts of Wayland Weekly, a student-run show of WayCam that deals with all WHS issues and events. The trios different grades bring in different vantage points and give the audience someone to connect with. The show allows viewers to call in and ask questions or chat with guests and hosts.

The first episode of the year was an interview with the Spanish exchange students. They shared their views on Wayland and compared life and school in Wayland to that in Spain.

The following week featured three of the freshmen running for freshmen class president. These candidates answered questions concerning their ideas for the coming year and reasons they each should be elected president. They also took part in fun activities such as dancing and quick mind games to get the candidates excited for the show.

The third episode hosted guests James Ivker and Stef Scari, president and vice president of student council. The two shared some ideas for the coming events, including winter week plans and a field day later in the fall.

Wayland Weekly was founded last year by 2008 graduates, Ainsley Washek and Jojo Reilly. Their goal was to broadcast to Wayland students about all of the events in the town, not limited to sports. Washek has a large interest in broadcast journalism and is currently majoring in communications and broadcasting at Suffolk University.

Regarding upcoming episodes, Greene said, “we don’t really think about things too in advance. Of course, if something big is happening within the school, we plan right away, but sometimes it’s just a fun spur of the moment thing!”

Wayland Weekly airs every Tuesday at 7:35 p.m, and it is scheduled to air throughout the entire academic year.
