On Saturday, Feb. 7, the varsity wrestling team went 3-0 in their quad meet against Wakefield, Boston Latin and Belmont. This meet was their last of the regular season, finishing with a record of 24-2.
Starting off strong in the opening match, Wayland beat Boston Latin 57-6, with the only match lost being due to a forfeit on the Wayland side.
In the second match against Wakefield, Wayland won eight of the 14 matches. However, significant point differences in the victories led to Wayland winning with a score of 42-28.
The win against Wakefield was an important victory for Wayland, as it was their first time beating Wakefield since 2020. Freshman Matthew Keenan’s victory was a turning point for the Wayland team in this match, as he was able to come back and pin his opponent after being down by seven.
“I knew after the first and second period that I was in better shape than [him], so I chose to top him in the third period and pinned him with an arm bar,” Keenan said. “I think [Wakefield] was a very important win for Wayland, and everyone on the team did their part to win us the match.”
The final match of the day was also the closest, with Wayland beating Belmont 36-23.
Senior captain Ronan Flatley, junior Joseph Cavallo and Keenan won their matches against all three teams. The quad meet sweep capped a historic run for Wayland, as the Warriors officially broke head coach Sean Chase’s single season win record of 23 wins.
“It was the most single season wins Wayland wrestling has achieved in the past 25 years,” Chase said.

"The exterior is still a nice monument to remember buildings [involved in] water history," Hoey said.
