Upon graduation, Wayland High School classes often leave the school gifts which serve as a way for people to remember them. One class donated four beautiful trees, of which there is now only one, that created a unique stench during their spring blossom. Another class added a bench for people to relax on during lunch, and yet another class gave a clock. Each class has had its own unique mark on campus.
In recent years, the campus’s greenery has been paved over, leaving a gray and sullen campus. In response to this change, Seth Harper has proposed a plan for the class of 2010’s mark on campus. Since it would be difficult and expensive to replace the concrete with new trees, Seth Harper has created a project that would design a mural on the pavement.
“When I saw that all the foliage on campus was being destroyed, I wanted to replace it,” he said. This mural could help re-energize a dingy campus. Work is already underway. A few weeks ago, there was a design workshop for the upcoming mural. A final design could be chosen by the end of the school year. During the summer and early fall, juniors will work on the design, and the school can expect the project to be completed by the beginning of the new school year.
