Wayland girls varsity basketball topped Newton South thanks to a buzzer-beating layup from junior captain Sammy Johnson. Junior captain Haley Melvin along with Johnson combined for 21 points. Newton South senior Amaris Mills scored her 1,000th point in this game, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory for the Lions.
