Explaining the end of the world controversy

What exactly is the controversy surrounding December 21, 2012? Join WSPN as we explain the supposed end of the world.
Open a new tab on your computer and Google the date December 21, 2012. Your search results will immediately identify this day as the final date of the 13th cycle of the Mayan Calendar and consequently, an array of arguments and theories discussing if this date marks the end of the world.

In 2007, this apocalyptic theory went viral on the internet, resulting in an eruption of various doomsday arguments and scenarios appearing in the media, particularly on social media websites.

The 2009 movie, “2012” depicts the end of the world with catastrophic geological events such as the eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera. This film brought even more publicity to the controversy surrounding December 21, 2012.

Those who believe that the world will end on December 21, 2012 have many theories about how it will happen. These potential disasters include solar flares, black holes, asteroids, collisions with another planet and a zombie attacks, to name just a few.

Over time there have been countless other apocalypse predictions. The last predicted apocalypse date that was highly publicized was at the turn of the new millenium, on January 1, 2000.
