    Right off of Route 20 sits Wayland Mini Market, a shop with over 20 years of history. The market opened before any other convenience store in the area. “I love my business because [even though] you need to put in a lot of time, I [get to interact] with my customers,” Wayland Mini Market owner Ahmed Mousa said.

    ChatGPT is infiltrating WHS with the newly developed programs aid for school work. In the moment, it can be very easy to reach for the nearest, easiest tool, but the long term effects of that are pretty harrowing, English teacher Kelsey Pitcairn said.

    For some students at WHS, advisory is a time to relax, but for others, it is unnecessary. “I have mixed feelings about advisory,” junior Katie Pralle said. “Some days, I wish I was doing other things, but other days, I am grateful for the short break.”

    NHL Winter Classic: More than just the game
    Currently, the WHS girls varsity basketball team has a record seven wins and one loss, three more than the team achieved last season. “I think the team came in really wanting to redeem themselves from a really tough season [last year],” coach Amanda Rukstalis said. “There was a lot of off-season basketball happening to prepare [us for] a better season this year.”

    The Wayland boys varsity soccer team celebrates its goal by running to the sidelines and embracing each other. The high intensity game went into overtime after a 2-2 tie, and it ultimately ended in a Wayland Warriors win of 3-2 against Somerville.

    The boys varsity soccer team faces Lincoln-Sudbury at home on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The game resulted in a draw, with the final score being 2-2. The team currently sits with a record of nine wins, five losses and three ties.

I’m always trying to improve and get faster, Gleason said. Now that I’m going to Bates College I want to make sure that when I get there the next fall that I’m in shape and ready to go.

    Senior Lucas Pralle emerges from the water to take a breath during his 100 meter butterfly event at states. Pralle came in first place at states in his event. It feels amazing to be a part of a team that has performed as well as we have, Pralle said. Everyone puts in the work in practice and our coaches work tirelessly to train and guide us to be the best swimmers we can be.

    Freshman Sofia Ciciarelli completes her first lap of the girls one mile race, ending with a final time of 6:44.96 minutes. In addition to indoor track, Ciciarelli runs for the WHS cross country team. “I run the mile in track, and compared to when I ran the mile in cross country, it’s very different,” Ciciarelli said. “The mile in cross country felt so much shorter because you go across a piece of land rather than in circles eight times, which can be really draining, and it feels like that mile is three miles.”

    • Through the summer months and into the fall and winter of 2019, construction on the turf field, track, and tennis courts continued. Barring minor setbacks at the outset of cold weather in the start of the winter, the project has progressed according to plan.

    • Pictured above is the WHS Academic Center. Students at WHS can complete their volunteer hours in many different ways, one of which involves tutoring in the Academic Center. “I think that 20 to 30 hours is a good amount of time considering the requirement is not a yearly thing,” sophomore Erin Hines said. “It feels really good to help out those in need or those in a not so ideal situation. The more I volunteer, the more I love it.”
