Girls varsity basketball fundraises for the American Cancer Society
December 26, 2020
For the past eight years, the girls varsity basketball team has competed in the “Coaches vs. Cancer” game where the money raised from the concession stand along with from game tickets is donated to the American Cancer Society. This year, the team will face difficulty in raising the amount they would like to due to not as many people being allowed to attend the game, therefore not as many tickets and snacks will be sold.
The team holds this event in honor of former freshmen basketball coach and guidance counselor Jim Griffin, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2012.
In hopes of still raising money for the cause, the team has set up both a fundraising page for donations and an online store where readers can purchase t-shirts for $20.50. The profit from the t-shirts will be donated to the American Cancer Society, and they can be picked up at Wayland High School. If you would like to buy a shirt, you can do so here.
The actual game will be against Waltham on Friday, Jan. 29. Varsity will play at 6:30 p.m., and JV will play prior to them at 4:30 p.m.
If you would like to donate, but do not want a shirt, you can do so here.
