The principals of Wayland Public Schools came together to make a district-wide birthday card for teacher Mike O’Connor. O’Connor was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and has been on medical leave ever since. Principal Brian Jones, other staff, students and their families have described O’Connor to truly change the lives of everyone he met. “Certain teachers name’s continually come up, and no surprise, Mr. OConnor is one of those teachers,” fifth grade teacher Jennifer Sole-Robertson said. “Year after year, I hear parents and students say that third grade was the year that they ‘became a student, started enjoying school or started understanding math when they had not previously.”
