Wayland High School students begin the course selections process. This year, students are not required to have a teacher recommendation for a certain course in order to take it. “People are going to be able to take academic risks that they haven’t been able to do before, and I think that may be new and exciting, guidance counselor Sara Bodi said.

The innovation camp was held last summer at WHS. “I originally chose to do it because it sounded like a really interesting opportunity and it was similar to college summer programs, but it was offered for free, sophomore Samantha Lee said.

The Wayland boys varsity soccer team celebrates its goal by running to the sidelines and embracing each other. The high intensity game went into overtime after a 2-2 tie, and it ultimately ended in a Wayland Warriors win of 3-2 against Somerville.

The boys varsity soccer team faces Lincoln-Sudbury at home on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The game resulted in a draw, with the final score being 2-2. The team currently sits with a record of nine wins, five losses and three ties.

Senior Anjali Patel prepares to shoot a free throw. The entire game was full of fouls, leading to many opportunities. In the end, Wayland lost 41-28 against Bedford.

Sophomore Luke Chisum finishes first in the freshman three kilometer race at the DCL Championship Meet in 2021. This year, I want to get around 16:30 for a five [kilometer race], Chisum said.

Sophomore Elena Mente prepares before pole vaulting for the Wayland high school track team. My favorite thing to do is pole vault, Mente said. I love getting to meet all new people from it.

Senior Quinn Gleason (front) rows in a double boat. Gleason rows for the Wayland-Weston crew team, and has committed to row for Bates College in the Class of 2026. I’m always trying to improve and get faster, Gleason said. Now that I’m going to Bates College I want to make sure that when I get there the next fall that I’m in shape and ready to go.

Senior Lucas Pralle emerges from the water to take a breath during his 100 meter butterfly event at states. Pralle came in first place at states in his event. It feels amazing to be a part of a team that has performed as well as we have, Pralle said. Everyone puts in the work in practice and our coaches work tirelessly to train and guide us to be the best swimmers we can be.

Senior Eric Hiebert guards his man during a Wayland defensive play while the fan section cheers behind him. I wasnt expecting that many people in the crowd there on senior night, Hiebert said. It was really exciting to see all the people come out. Weve had a bit of a tough start to the season, and then more recently we started winning games, so senior night was kind of like a culmination of all the hard work that weve been working for the entire season.
