Above is senior Daniel D’Amico playing soccer. He has been playing since he was five. “The game is hardly ever stopped for more than 30 seconds, making it fast paced and always interesting,” D’Amico said.

Name: Daniel D’Amico

Grade: Senior

Sport: Soccer

Achievements: D’Amico has been playing soccer since he was five, following his parents who both played. He has shared the DCL title twice and won the MIAA Division III state tournament. D’Amico was also named a DCL All Star last year.

Sports Idol: His sports idol is English soccer player Wayne Rooney. “I love how hard he always plays and the style in which he plays,” D’Amico said.

Favorite memory: D’Amico’s favorite memory is winning the state championship last year. Originally, he believed his team had a chance of winning a few games but did not expect to go as far as winning the whole thing. “Winning it all was an experience that few have and many dream about, so it was really amazing to have done so,” D’Amico said.

Quote: “I love the speed of soccer. The game is hardly ever stopped for more than 30 seconds, making it fast paced and always interesting. I always have to be alert or I could miss a play, keeping me focused on the game and always engaged. I also love the subtle physicality that the sport brings. Some people think of soccer as not that physical, but when you have kids like Peter Murray running full speed into you, it’s definitely very physical. That combined with the speed of the game makes the sport extremely fun for me.”
