Alliance will be hosting a movie night fundraiser on Thursday, June 2, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the High School. The film that will be showing is the Netflix original movie, The Mitchells vs. The Machines, which was released in April 2021. The movie is free to watch, and a variety of snacks and drinks will be sold during a 20 minute intermission, which will go towards future Alliance events.

The Mitchells vs. The Machines is an animated science-fiction comedy about a quirky family, the Mitchells, who embark on a road trip and later find themselves in a robot apocalypse, ultimately saving the world from the electronic devices.

Alliance chose this film due to the fact that the main character, 17-year-old Katie Mitchell, is openly queer. Alliance wants to shine a light on the fact that the movie is not focused on how the main character is part of the LGBTQ community, but rather that, by just simply having an LGBTQ character can make a difference.

“This is the representation that the LGBTQ community has been asking for for a while now,” Alliance Club advisor Kassie Wright said. “We do not always need a movie that is all about being LGBTQ. Sometimes just having an LGBTQ character can make a huge difference. The community feels seen.”
