Teaming up for Coach Adrian

For any Wayland child who has learned to play basketball, soccer, or baseball, chances are it was with the help of Wayland legend Adrian Gomes. For over 20 years, he has been dedicated to coaching and teaching sports in Wayland. Unfortunately, Gomes’s teenage daughter, Alex, has been battling cancer for a number of years. To help Alex and her family through this hard time, a group of Wayland athletes have organized “Canning for Coach.”

Brendan Place, a senior at Wayland High School says, “For all the hard work Adrian put in to helping students, our help in return is more than well deserved.” Similarly, senior Kyle Owens says, “It is great that this event is taking place because Adrian really has done so much for all of us.”

From 9:00AM to 3:00PM on Saturday, April 4, students will be collecting donations at various Wayland locations for Coach Adrian. They will be stationed at the town dump, Whole Foods, Starbucks, Wayland Variety and Deli, Liberty Pizza, Dunkin Donuts, and Donelan’s. The event will culminate with a rally at Wayland High School at 3:30PM, during which student athletes and their families will present the day’s donations on the steps of the Wayland High School Field House.
