Boys basketball head coach Dennis Doherty will not be returning to the sideline this winter as he announced his resignation earlier this month. Doherty has been the head coach for 17 years and played for the Wayland varsity team during his high school days.

After the captains, seniors Dylan Engelhardt, Alex Evengelista and juniors Brajae Walton Aidan Curry come back from meeting with the reffs and Ashlands captains, players rush the field and jump up in excitement. "Our team is young, but shows a lot of potential," Engelhardt said. "At the end of the day, it comes down to getting better each week and reducing mistakes."

Throughout history, rat poison has been a common method of pest control, often being placed by pest companies or bought online for personal use. Times have changed though, and with a plethora of alternative options, the outdated use of this product is shooting us in the foot. Rodenticides have the power to wipe out an entire wildlife ecosystem and yet they are still commercially used in the state, which is why it’s imperative that it ends now. “I feel better in my soul, knowing that I'm taking an action to try to protect the environment," Co-founder of Save Concord Wildlife Gwendolyn Shipley said. “I would encourage anyone who is feeling a little bit overwhelmed, this could be a small step to take to help save the world.”

A project that has taken many days, weeks and months to achieve is finally open and ready for use. The new Council On Aging Community Center opened their newly constructed doors to the public on June 5. Many activities took place at the opening ceremony including speeches, a ribbon cutting ceremony, games and presentations. In addition, food and beverages were given out for the attendees to enjoy. “We are very excited for this community center to be opening because it has been a long project and has been eagerly awaited for by many Wayland residents,” Wayland resident Deacon Hoagland said.

This years Color Blast event strived to use more sustainable materials in displays to reduce WHS’s eco-footprint “It’s important to be thoughtful about what you're throwing away at the end, so that we can make this event really fun and a community driven event while reducing the amount of waste we're creating,” Student Council advisor John Keene said.

On Thursday, Feb. 2, Wayland High School's annual talent show took place during fourth block and last block. A variety of students showcased their talents through singing, dancing, comedy or playing musical instruments. The WHS Student Council organized this event, and teachers were allowed to sign up their classes to attend the event beginning last week. The talent show occurs during Winter Week.
