This year, many juniors and seniors are facing massive changes to their college selection and application processes. One significant change that has been put into place is the lack of in-person college tours. As a result, many students are participating in virtual tours to help them in their application process. “I find it hard to kind of understand the vibe of the school just because some colleges I think handle virtual tours a lot better than others and after watching some tours I’m like I didn’t like that, but then it's like questionable like if I actually liked it or not because the virtual tours are hard for me to try to evaluate my feelings,” junior Nina Price said.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, many aspects of science classes are different this year. One major change in the curriculum is the lack of interactive labs. The decision to restrict these hands-on activities stemmed from the goal of keeping students safe while they attended school in-person.“It was just too complicated figuring out how to have students share chemicals, share balances, and there’s a lot of different glassware and collaboration that goes on, so people would be really close and there’d be a lot of contact,” chemistry teacher Jennifer McGuinn said.

It's currently unknown what the 2021-2022 school year will look like at Wayland High School. However, many students and staff are optimistic about restrictions being lifted. Many crucial factors, such as the vaccine have played a role in this hopefulness of returning to normalcy. “I think [the vaccine] is going to be a relatively big effect just because vaccines allow us to protect the people who are most vulnerable, and just generally kind of prevent larger scale spread,” junior Lily Noyes said.

The Wayland High School girls swim team gathers together after a big meet. This year, winter sports teams will not have the opportunity to participate in highly anticipated meets such as the state tournament, but players have been trying to stay as positive and motivated as possible. “It's sad that we’re not going to get [a state tournament] this year, but at the same time we do have DCL’s so we’re just all grateful and something’s better than nothing,” sophomore swimmer Riley Kendall said.
