Academic Center teacher Barbara Wolfson has taught at Wayland High School for eight years. At the end of this school year, she has decided to enter retirement.

As the director of the academic center, Wolfson helps hundreds of students in homework, organization, getting ready for college and much more.

“I’ve loved the opportunity to help students make the transition from middle school to high school and then the older students when they transition from high school into college,” Wolfson said.

Beside helping students, Wolfson also started the Peer Mentor Program on her own and the Career Colloquium with guidance counselor Jennifer Sullivan.

In addition to the Peer Mentor program and the Career Colloquium, Wolfson plays a major role in the senior project process as well as the school’s branch of National Honor Society.

“I have my fingers in a lot of pots. [This] allows me to help many students,” Wolfson said.

Wolfson hopes that even as she transitions out of WHS, her legacy will remain at the school.

“I hope the work that I’ve done lasts [at WHS],” Wolfson said. “I would also like to think my smile and my availability and my ability [will be] present for many students.”

Ms. Wolfson’s many contributions to Wayland High School will definitely see her legacy carry on and continue to help students long after she retires.

“I feel as though I’ve been able to make a connection with so many students,” Wolfson said.
