WSPN’s Emily Roberge discusses Marjorie Taylor Greene’s political career and her inciting of the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection.

I have never trusted politicians. Don’t get me wrong, I think there are some good ones, but I just can’t seem to have confidence in most: they seem slimy and manipulative to me. No politician will ever be perfect, and I understand that. But, there comes a point when we must draw a line between being a politician and having moral decency, and Marjorie Taylor Greene has done just that for me.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is a name that most Democrats wince at hearing. Greene is a United States Representative for the state of Georgia, promoting far-right conspiracy theories and extremist motivations. She’s disruptive to say the least. And, she is deleterious to our political system at best.

No matter what political party you may align with or no matter where you live, we should all be in agreement with one thing: Greene should not be able to represent our country. Time and time again she has proven to be an immediate threat to our legislative branch. As a member of the far-right conspiracy group, QAnon, Greene has infected political supporters with false narratives. Whether it’s her repeated promotion of conspiracy lies on the internet like the “Frazzledip” or the “Clinton Kill List” conspiracies, Greene has proved herself to be nothing but a liar.

One of Greene’s most troubling lies is that she questioned the actuality of the September 9/11 terrorist attacks that killed more than 2,800 people, asserting that there was no evidence that a plane actually flew into the Pentagon. If that isn’t bad enough, Greene also somehow challenged the truth behind the 2018 Parkland School shooting that horrifically ended the lives of seventeen students and staff. In response to a Facebook post that claimed that the Parkland, Florida school shooting was staged, Greene wrote, “Exactly!”

Rather than consoling the grieving families and friends of those lost, Marjorie Taylor Greene downright disregarded the pain and suffering of these families, only to say, it didn’t happen that way. How many acts of violence will it take you to acknowledge the truth, Greene?

It’s ironic. We seek politicians in our country that will stop violence within our nation, not threaten it. Greene seems to defy this thinking. She is not a stranger to threatening violence on other politicians, including Democrat House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Not only has she written a “press release” and an unreported blog post promoting the execution of Pelosi for treason, but she has also indicated support for executing former President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and former FBI agents before her election. If that doesn’t concern you, I don’t know what will. It’s disgusting to say the least.

As deliberation over the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol continues, Greene, among others, remains guilty for inciting violence. For months, Greene has been on a trail of lies, declaring that those who stormed the Capitol were “antifa and Black Lives Matter activists.” Although she denies it now, a day prior to the insurrection, Greene tweeted, “This is our 1776 moment,” a  reference to the year that patriots began their efforts towards independence from Britain.

People follow what their favorite politicians say. No doubt, this served as a motivation for some of Greene’s supporters to grab their guns and wreak havoc on the sacred building of our country’s legislative branch-the symbol of our country’s democracy. So, what happens next?

In recent weeks, liberal activists have attempted to use part of the 14th Amendment to prevent Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from being on the congressional ballot in Georgia. This 1868 amendment declares that “nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty or property, without the due process of law; nor deny to deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” In other words, Greene’s comments and actions during the Jan. 6 insurrection on the Capitol “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States,” and she should be banned from her next reelection. The provision hasn’t put into practice since 1919, but it should be used now. Greene must be held accountable.

Unfortunately, this lawsuit is unlikely to take Greene off the ballot. But, it represents much more than just her being up for reelection soon. The United States is said to be the “land of the free and home of the brave,” so how come we allow politicians like Greene to encourage violence and divide our country? Despite what Greene might say, she is no “patriot.” She is evil. She is a liar. She is a disgrace. It’s about time our country realizes that.
