On Friday, the JV boys soccer team lost yet another tough game. While playing Westford Academy, Wayland gave up a goal in the first 2 minutes of the game. The Wayland coach, Mr. Gavron, made some key substitutes all through the game to keep Wayland in it. In the last 10 minutes of the first half, with Wayland still losing 1-0, Coach Gavron decided to give Ro Perkins a break as goalkeeper and put in freshman David Villari. At the end of the first half Wayland felt their defense, lead by sweeper, Christian Kilburn, was great, but the offense really had to step it up.
The second half again started well for Westford Academy, who scored a goal in the first 10 minutes. With Takoda Register taking the corner kicks, Wayland came close to scoring twice, hitting the crossbar by mere inches both times. With Wayland missing Justin Entrup’s strong kicks due to a run-in with the ref the game before, it was hard for Wayland to move the ball up the field. For the next 30 minutes of the game Wayland did not give up a goal but also didn’t score. Unfortunately, this is their 4th loss in a row. We’ll cross our fingers that Wayland can end that streak by winning this Monday’s game against Tyngsboro High School.

Wayland did indeed end their 3 game skid Monday at Tyngsboro, looking solid in a 3-0 win. Mike Antonell chipped in with two goals, and Freshman Griffin McGrail had two assists. Wayland faces Lincoln Sudbury this Wednesday and will look to go above .500 with a win there.
