One Down, Two More to Go

This past Wednesday, Wayland’s Mock Trial Team won against Lexington’s Mock Trial Team in the first of its three trials in the preliminary round.

This year’s case involves a high school student who files a lawsuit against a company he interned at. The plaintiff claims the company discriminated against him because of the hostile work environment and that the company also retaliated against him.

Wayland’s defense, which faced Lexington’s plaintiff, was composed of nine students. The attorneys were Katie Gordon, Tom Harrington, Brian Coons, Samantha Gupta, Dan Harper, and Libby Gutschenritter. The witnesses were Alex Vancil, Andrea Tempesta, and Peggy Wang.

The Wayland team has been practicing since October, with Mrs. Sherry and Howard Lenow, an attorney, guiding the group in improving their examinations and skills. Their assistance and the team’s hard work proved their worth in the trial. Despite its first victory, the team knows it still needs to prepare for the coming trials and that both the plaintiff and defense sides cannot rest just yet. Wayland’s next opponent is Belmont High.
