The downside of February vacation

The downside of February vacation

Well, I haven’t written a new blog for a month. It got a little hectic, with midterms, winter week, and then February vacation, so you guys got a break from me.

February vacation is the topic of my blog this week. In my experience, it’s the worst vacation. Even though you have time off and you’re at home, it’s cold and dreary and most of your friends are away. Unfortunately, I got into this conversation a few times:

Me: Where’s Joey?

Person: He’s off in the Caribbean.

Me: Oh, where’s Vince?

Person: He’s skiing in Vermont.

Me: Cool, Amanda’s gone too. Where did she go on vacation?

Person: Her grandmother just died. What’s wrong with you?

And then I feel like a terrible person. But all bitterness aside, I had a fun, quiet vacation. It’s the coming back from the vacation part that bothers me the most. One year, the Monday we got back from winter vacation, I trudged into first block math class and was cheerfully greeted with “Pop quiz everyone!”

Really, if you think assess last week and this one, you’re bound to be depressed.

“Last week, I went snorkeling off the coast of Mexico. This week, I had a math test, choked on the cafeteria’s ‘food’, and had to write an essay made up of so many pages that the recycling center has opened a new section just for me.”

That’s enough to make anyone blue. Sorry if you normally read this blog to cheer yourself up.

Everything is screwed up for a week and then, slowly, things get back to normal. But then we only have two weeks until Daylight Saving Time. Since we fall back in November, and spring forward in March, we’ll lose an hour, and you’ll get completely thrown off. It’s dark when you wake up again, and then everyone’s so tired. Then it takes you another week to get into the swing of things again. Another thing to look forward to!

Just think of me as your cloud on a sunny day.

Andy
