Senior year extended by one week

The class of 2012 will be staying on campus for an additional week this spring because graduation was pushed to June 10th, one week later than previous years.
Wayland isn’t the only town making this change.
“The state mandates that no schools graduate their seniors sooner than 12 days before the last day of school for all students,” said Principal Patrick Tutwiler. “I understand that people are upset, but be that as it may, people should also understand that it’s not something we have flexibility with.”
Despite the state mandate, some students are still upset.
“I think it’s pretty lousy, especially because the seniors already had everything set up, like the cruise, and it was a big hassle to change all of the dates,” said senior Guy Efrat, a member of the class Executive Board.
Some students are looking at it differently.
“It doesn’t really bother me because we’re not going to be doing work anyway, and it’s going to be wicked fun,” said senior Chris D’Amico.
Despite the lengthier year, Tutwiler doesn’t expect many changes.
“I think beyond the disappointment it’s not going to have a huge impact. It is an additional week here, but it’s going to be fun, and focused to the largest extent possible on learning.”
