The construction of the new school building has been a continual presence for students at Wayland High School over the past year and a half. As the new school was transforming from blue prints to reality, students began expressing feelings of excitement, nostalgia and sadness. However, January 3rd was the day everyone found out how they really felt.

It really annoys me when people complain about the color scheme in the school – OH NO! We can't learn when there are purple and yellow next to each other over there!!! Seriously? They're fine. I might have picked other colors, but they're certainly better than all-white. Also, you don't like the new school because you get lost? It was the FIRST DAY. Obviously you don't know your way around, that comes with having a new school…
I personally love the new technology; the fact that all the facilities are nice and clean, as well as environmentally-conscious; that the I don't have to freeze outside between classes, but still have the option to sit outside in the spring/fall if it's nice and warm (more grassy area + new benches everywhere outside); that my classes are much closer together and I can actually use my locker if I need it; the new lunch stations, which regardless of actual change in food, are much more efficient; the library/academic center, which has tons of new, comfortable chairs; the handicap accessibility; the new theater, which is absolutely amazing. Seriously, have you heard the acoustics in there? …fantastic.
Obviously, the new school will take some getting used to for all of us. Obviously, there are some things about it that not everyone is a fan of, including me. However, it is a tremendous improvement over the old WHS. Though I am sad to see it go, I am excited to be able to be able to take advantage of the state-of-the-art facilities and resources in the new school and everything that goes with it. Many people I have talked to agree with me on this one. HSBC, thank you for your hard work. Staff members, thank you for your hard work as well. Construction workers and architects, thank you for your hard work, through rain/shine, snow/ice.
I look forward to the next chapter in WHS history, and I hope you all do as well.
