Sharry to pursue job opportunity at University of Miami

Pictured above is Dana Sharry. Sharry, who teaches business and wellness classes at WHS, plans to participate in a graduate assistantship at University of Miami after the end of the school year. “Whether I am teaching or working in another field in the future, a graduate degree is something that I’m also pursuing, so this is a great opportunity for me to hit both of those goals," Sharry said.

At the end of the school year, Dana Sharry, a current member of the EBM and Wellness teaching staff, will leave WHS to pursue a job opportunity at the University of Miami.

Sharry has been offered a position as an intern coach for the university’s football team and an opportunity to participate in a graduate assistantship at the school. The graduate assistantship program allows employees of a collegiate program in the university to enroll in the graduate school.

“One of the dreams of mine is to coach at the collegiate level, and I figured I would give it a shot while I am still young,” Sharry said. “Whether I am teaching or working in another field in the future, a graduate degree is something that I’m also pursuing, so this is a great opportunity for me to hit both of those goals.”

This is Sharry’s first year as a teacher at WHS, but he is no stranger to the school system. Sharry grew up in Wayland and has gone through the entire Wayland Public School program, graduating in 2007.

In Sharry’s first year working at WHS, he worked in many roles such as an EBM teacher, wellness teacher for freshmen classes, dean of sophomores and juniors, football team coach and mentor for students running the school store.

“It’s been a great opportunity for me, coming from a business background, to explore all the things that are part of the education system at a great school like Wayland High School,” Sharry said. “I’m blessed to have a number of different opportunities.”

A return to WHS is not out of the question for Sharry as he looks towards the future.

“I’m only 24, and this has been my first year teaching, and I’m enjoying it greatly,” Sharry said. “This is just an opportunity to pursue one dream and also obtain a graduate degree which is something I would need to keep teaching here anyways.”

Sharry will leave for Miami near the end of July.
