The boys’ track team recently concluded their season schedule. Overall, they went 2-3 in the DCL Small. One of the team’s biggest strengths this year has been their depth, which is something they have lacked in the last few seasons.

Although the team has a lot of depth, they lack experience in a few events.

“We have our handful of veterans who lead the way in the events that they compete in,” Peter Galalis, head track coach said. “But, [we have] a lot of new folks competing in the long jump and the triple jump who are still learning the ropes.”

One of the key performers of the team is senior Patrick Butler. He is currently trying to break the school record in the 400 hurdles in one of the upcoming meets.

In addition, senior Zack Last and junior Graham Macklin are the two top distance runners. Macklin has qualified for states in both the mile and the two mile.

According to Coach Galalis, the Weston Twilight Meet was his most memorable moment of the season.

“This is the only meet of the season where we compete in the steeplechase, which is a funky distance event. It is 2000 meters. They jump over barriers. One of them lands in the water,” Galalis said.

Last Saturday, Last ran the event and broke the school record.

Galalis would like to recognize Addison Kay for his work ethic and his drive. His two main events are the 800 and the four by four relay.

“He has really improved over the course of the season. The 800 is a hard event and he is always there to put in as much work as he can,” Galalis said.

The goal for the end of the season is personal improvement for individual athletes. Galalis is hoping for runners to achieve their personal best times in the upcoming meets.

“I think [we can achieve this by] hard work in practice and staying focussed,” Galalis said.

The team has the League Championship meet and the JV Championship this week.
